A postdoctoral position in gravitational physics is available at the Physics Department of Koc University, Istanbul, Turkey. The position is for two years starting January 1, 2018 with a re-evaluation at the end of the first year. A third year is possible upon the availability of funding. Selected candidate will undertake research on gravitational physics with Fethi M Ramazanoğlu, mainly using numerical methods (see http://mysite.ku.edu.tr/framazanoglu/ for more information) The candidate is expected to have a strong background in gravitational physics and general relativity. Knowledge of numerical methods is desired, but not required.

Please upload your CV with publications list, research statement and three references at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/9470. Deadline is October 1, 2017, but applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.

Compensation: The salary is 2800 Turkish liras per month and tax exempt. Koç University provides free shared housing near the university, or a housing allowance depending on the candidate’s preference. Meal tickets covering lunches are also provided free of charge.

Work Place: Koç University is a leading research institute with a lively physics department. We are located among the forests of northern Istanbul with an easy commute to the city center. Istanbul is a global metropolis spanning the intersection of Europe and Asia with an active social life and many natural beauties.

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the in the Laboratory of Centrosomes, Cilia and Microtubules at Koç University. The central questions behind our work is understanding how centrosomes and cilia are assembled, maintained and dynamically altered during cell cycle, as well as elucidating what goes awry in diseases associated with abnormalities in centrosome/cilium complex. We take a multidisciplinary approach to address these questions, combining genomic, proteomic, biochemical and cell biological methods. For details please see https://mysite.ku.edu.tr/ekaralar/)

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related fields. To apply please send a cover letter summarizing your research interests, description of past research accomplishments, and your CV, along with contact information for at least 2 references to: ekaralar@ku.edu.tr

Nearly one in 5000 people inherit mtDNA mutations that can cause disease. Others are afflicted with mtDNA-associated disease after long-term treatment with anti-viral or anti-cancer agents. Moreover, throughout our lifespan, we accumulate damage to our mtDNA, raising the possibility that mtDNA damage is a cause of aging. One long term aim of our laboratory is to find genetic and pharmacological methods by which we can increase the fitness of human cells with impaired mitochondria.

Successful candidates for this technician position should have a record of academic success during their undergraduate and, if applicable, master’s degree studies. Experience in molecular and microbiological techniques is favorable, and the candidate should be meticulous in their approach to laboratory tasks and
record keeping. Strong communication skills in both Turkish and English are essential.

Interested candidates should Email a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the contact details of three references to Dr. Cory Dunn (cdunn@ku.edu.tr). The subject line should include the text “TECHAPP”.

More information about the laboratory can be found at: http://mitolab.ku.edu.tr

Two postdoc, two PhD students and one technician positions are now available for different subprojects within a recently awarded ERC Starting Grant project. The overall aims of these projects are to study the biogenesis and function of the centrosome/cilium complex by focusing on their regulation of the underappreciated structures termed centriolar satellites. The available subprojects are highly interdisciplinary and include among others the development and use of state-of-the-art live-imaging assays (FRAP, photoactivation, SNAP) to study the dynamic behavior of centrosome/cilium proteins, the use of proximity-labeling techniques and biochemical purifications to elucidate the changes in the proteome of the centrosome/cilium complex under different conditions and the use of genome-editing to generate cell lines for the proposed experiments. In addition, molecular cloning, cell biology and protein purification techniques will be routinely used. Candidates with a strong background in cell biology, biochemistry and/or proteomics are encouraged to apply, lab website (https://mysite.ku.edu.tr/ekaralar/). To apply, please send your cover letter, curriculum vitae and contact details of three referees to ekaralar@ku.edu.tr

A postdoctoral position is open in Assoc. Prof. Alkan Kabakcioglu’s group. The position is for two years starting August 1, 2016 (with a re-evaluation at the end of the first year). Selected candidate will work on dynamical aspects of nucleic acid folding by means of computer simulations and analytical methods, while s/he may also get involved in the other projects conducted by the group (see http://home.ku.edu.tr/~akabakcioglu).
