Open Positions

Full-Time Faculty Positions

Koç University, a foundation-supported, non-profit institution of higher education in
Istanbul, Turkey, invites applications for full-time faculty positions of open rank in
areas that will complement and/or expand the current research activities of the
Molecular Biology and Genetics Department.
Post-doctoral experience is required for candidates at the Assistant Professor level.
Successful candidates are expected to develop a vigorous and internationally
competitive research program and to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses.
The medium of instruction is English. Salary will be competitive and commensurate
with experience. University housing or rental subsidy, and K-12 education subsidy
will be provided.
Applications should be submitted online at academicjobsonline.org and should consist
of the following materials:
(a) cover letter (including summary of past and ongoing research)
(b) curriculum vitae and publication list,
(c) research plan,
(d) teaching statement, and
(e) three letters of recommendation.

Other Positions

Applications are being accepted for two postdoctoral research positions in the Quantum Enabling System Technologies (QuEST) group (https://quest.ku.edu.tr/) of Professor Ozgur E. Mustecaplioglu at Koc University. Both positions will primarily involve theoretical studies of quantum thermodynamical properties of systems for specific applications.

One position will focus on design and applications of quantum fuels for space applications with multi-qubit systems and quantum coherence, while the other position will be focused on quantum thermodynamical properties of topological matter.  Both positions are for the projects of our group supported by TUBITAK (National Science Foundation of Turkey).

The projects are within the scopes of some EU-COST actions (Quantum Technologies for Space and Atom Quantum Technologies) with plenty of international and national collaborations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field and substantial experience in at least one of the following areas: topological insulators, quantum thermodynamics, quantum optics, quantum optomechanics.

The appointment will be for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The position offers a competitive salary, free accommodation (shared and fully furnished flat with all amenities), food tickets, and private health insurance benefits.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Applicants should submit electronically to Prof. Ozgur E. Mustecaplioglu, omustecap@ku.edu.tr, CV with a list of publications, a cover  letter describing their qualifications, and the names and contact information for at least two professional references.  A review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the in the Laboratory of Centrosomes, Cilia and Microtubules at Koç University. The central questions behind our work is understanding how centrosomes and cilia are assembled, maintained and dynamically altered during cell cycle, as well as elucidating what goes awry in diseases associated with abnormalities in centrosome/cilium complex. We take a multidisciplinary approach to address these questions, combining genomic, proteomic, biochemical and cell biological methods. For details please see https://mysite.ku.edu.tr/ekaralar/)

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related fields. To apply please send a cover letter summarizing your research interests, description of past research accomplishments, and your CV, along with contact information for at least 2 references to: ekaralar@ku.edu.tr

Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral position in microphotonics and integrated photonics at the Koç University Microphotonics Research Laboratory. The candidate should have strong background in lasers and photonics. The successful candidate will conduct experimental research in free space and guided wave laser spectroscopy in collaboration with an international team of scientists and engineers. The salary is competitive and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications including a curriculum vitae, list of publications, and three references should be sent to professor Ali Serpengüzel.  The candidates can also apply for funds to the “Co-Funded Brain Circulation Scheme (Co-Circulation)”, a new Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) Cofund Program managed by TUBITAK.

Two postdoc, two PhD students and one technician positions are now available for different subprojects within a recently awarded ERC Starting Grant project. The overall aims of these projects are to study the biogenesis and function of the centrosome/cilium complex by focusing on their regulation of the underappreciated structures termed centriolar satellites. The available subprojects are highly interdisciplinary and include among others the development and use of state-of-the-art live-imaging assays (FRAP, photoactivation, SNAP) to study the dynamic behavior of centrosome/cilium proteins, the use of proximity-labeling techniques and biochemical purifications to elucidate the changes in the proteome of the centrosome/cilium complex under different conditions and the use of genome-editing to generate cell lines for the proposed experiments. In addition, molecular cloning, cell biology and protein purification techniques will be routinely used. Candidates with a strong background in cell biology, biochemistry and/or proteomics are encouraged to apply, lab website (https://mysite.ku.edu.tr/ekaralar/). To apply, please send your cover letter, curriculum vitae and contact details of three referees to ekaralar@ku.edu.tr
