This talk covers the innovative design opportunities of smart materials achieved through the strategic integration of functional nanostructures such as nano clays, nano wires or micelles within polymer networks. Various methods can be used in order to improve material properties and functionalities, particularly in the case of nanostructure and hydrogel (nano-gel) composites. Nano-gel structures are designed for cutting-edge applications, including in-body and environmental sensing, and have been shown to have a great potential as functional hybrid systems.
