The Science Colloquium on November 28th, 14:30 in Founders Hall, “Active Materials: Surprises & Research Opportunities” will be given by Prof. Steve Granick in celebration of Koç University’s 25th anniversary.

Prof. Granick is the director of the IBS Center for Soft and Living Matter in Korea. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Among his other major awards are APS Fellow (1992), Paris-Sciences Medal (2002), APS national Polymer Physics Prize (2009), NSF Special Creativity Award (2012), and ACS national Colloid and Surface Chemistry Prize (2013). His major scientific contributions are at the intersection of physics, chemistry and biology including molecular mobility in confined liquids, nanorheology, interaction of biological membranes, transport in living cells and self-assembly of Janus colloidal particles. His talk on Active Materials will introduce a highly interdisciplinary and fast-growing field of material science involving scientists and engineers.
